INCI: Glycerin (and) Aqua (and) Polyquaternium-67 (and) Sodium Citrate / CAS #:

Refatting Agent (PO65 Type) is a conditioning additive used in cleansing formulations to improve mildness and skin feel.

Key benefits

  • Improves cleanser mildness
  • Enhances skin conditioning
  • Reduces dryness
  • Improves sensory profile

Behaviour in formulations

It integrates into surfactant systems and enhances conditioning and post-wash feel.

Add to the water or surfactant phase with gentle mixing until uniform. Avoid high shear to minimise aeration.

Use level considerations

Use Rate (Min): 1.0
Use Rate (Max): 5.0

Refatting
Agent (PO65 Type) is typically used at 1–5% depending on the formulation type and desired level of conditioning.

  •  Facial cleansers: 1–3%
  • Body wash: 2–4%
  • Shampoo: 2–4%

Used at lower levels for lighter systems and higher levels where increased conditioning and reduced dryness are required.

Starter Use Rate: 2–3% for most cosmetic formulations

Typically used at 1–5% depending on formulation type.

Formulation summary

Refatting Agent (PO65 Type) is used to improve the mildness and sensory profile of surfactant systems.

It integrates into aqueous or surfactant phases and works alongside primary and secondary surfactants such as cocamidopropyl betaine, coco-glucoside, and sarcosinates. It does not contribute primary cleansing, but instead refines and balances the system.

It is particularly useful in formulations designed for frequent use, sensitive skin, or where reduced dryness and improved after-feel are priorities.

Quality notes

Cosmetic-grade material with controlled viscosity, stable pH, and consistent composition for reliable formulation performance.
