Behaviour in formulations

Beta-glucan integrates into aqueous and emulsion systems and may contribute to viscosity depending on use level.

Sensory notes

Beta-glucan contributes a soft, hydrated skin feel and can slightly increase viscosity. At higher levels,
it may create a light film. Sensory outcome is formulation-dependent; bench testing is recommended.

PROCESSING

Disperse gradually into the aqueous system with mixing to minimise clumping and allow sufficient time for complete hydration. Avoid adding the powder rapidly in one concentrated mass.

For more complex formulations, evaluate the most suitable dispersion method, order of addition and hydration time during bench testing.

COMPATIBILITY

Suitable for use in many water-based cosmetic systems and may be formulated alongside complementary humectants and water-soluble cosmetic actives.

Beta-Glucan can be incorporated into multi-humectant systems alongside ingredients such as glycerin, Sodium Hyaluronate and other compatible hydration-focused ingredients.

Hydrating Serum

  • Beta-Glucan: 0.2–0.5%
  • Use within a preserved aqueous serum alongside compatible humectants according to the desired hydration and sensory profile.

Barrier-Support Cream

  • Beta-Glucan: 0.2–0.5%
  • Incorporate into the aqueous system of an emulsion designed around hydration, skin conditioning and skin comfort.

Soothing Gel

  • Beta-Glucan: 0.2–0.5%
  • Use in a water-based gel system where hydration and skin-comfort support are desired.

Facial Mist or Toner

  • Beta-Glucan: 0.1–0.3%
  • Use in lightweight aqueous formulations where low-level Beta-Glucan functionality is desired without relying on it for primary formulation structure.
