Shop this ingredient →

Lamesoft® PO65 is a refatting ingredient based on Coco-Glucoside and Glyceryl Oleate, used primarily in surfactant-based rinse-off formulations to improve mildness and post-cleansing feel. It introduces lipid-replenishing functionality into cleansing systems, helping reduce the tight, stripped sensation that can occur after washing.

In formulation, its role extends beyond sensory modification. Lamesoft® PO65 can also help stabilise surfactant systems, allowing formulators to incorporate refatting functionality while supporting the structure of the cleansing system itself.

It is particularly relevant to facial cleansers, body washes, shampoos and other mild cleansing products where effective cleansing needs to be balanced with a softer, more conditioned post-rinse experience.

Lamesoft® PO65

What is Lamesoft® PO65 & why is it used?

Lamesoft® PO65 is a refatting ingredient composed of Coco-Glucoside and Glyceryl Oleate, developed for use in surfactant-based cleansing systems. Refatting ingredients are incorporated into rinse-off formulations to help offset the removal of skin lipids that occurs during cleansing and improve the way skin feels after the product is rinsed away.

Within a cleansing formulation, Lamesoft® PO65 provides lipid-replenishing functionality and can help reduce the sensation of tightness after washing. This makes refatting particularly relevant when formulating mild facial cleansers, body washes and other cleansing products where post-rinse comfort is part of the formulation objective.

QUALITY MATTERS

Why specification quality matters

Lamesoft® PO65 is a defined blend rather than a single-component raw material, so quality assessment is based on the specification of the supplied system rather than a single assay percentage.

Relevant specification parameters include appearance, pH, density, viscosity and water content.

For repeat formulation and commercial production, consistency against defined parameters is important because changes in the supplied material may affect its handling and performance within the finished surfactant system. Batch-specific quality documentation should be reviewed when qualifying material for production.

Appearance Transparent to slightly yellowish viscous liquid
Primary function Surfactant
Use level 1.0–5.0%

Key benefits

Refatting Support

Refatting Support

Helps replenish skin lipids during cleansing, supporting a more conditioned post-rinse skin feel.
Rinse-off Mildness

Rinse-off Mildness

Helps reduce the feeling of tightness after cleansing, making it useful in mild facial and body cleansing systems.
Skin Conditioning

Skin Conditioning

Supports a softer, more comfortable post-cleansing feel where conditioning is an important part of the formulation objective.
Surfactant Stability

Surfactant Stability

Helps stabilise surfactant systems, providing functional formulation support alongside its refatting role.

Behaviour in formulations

Lamesoft® PO65 is incorporated into the surfactant system rather than used as the primary cleansing component. Its presence allows the cleansing system to combine primary surfactant performance with additional refatting functionality.

Because it is a viscous liquid, uniform incorporation is important.

As with other functional additions to a surfactant base, the finished formulation should be reassessed after incorporation. Viscosity, clarity, foam behaviour, rinse characteristics and physical stability may depend on the surrounding surfactant system and overall formulation.

Sensory notes

Lamesoft® PO65 is used to modify the post-cleansing sensory profile of surfactant systems. Its refatting functionality can help reduce the tight sensation associated with cleansing and contribute to a softer, more conditioned after-feel.

The final sensory effect will depend on the surfactant blend, use level and complete formulation, so it should be evaluated in the finished cleansing system rather than from the raw material alone.

Formulation considerations

PROCESSING

Add to the water or surfactant phase with gentle mixing until uniform. Avoid high shear to minimise aeration.

COMPATIBILITY

Designed for use within surfactant systems, with suitability documented across shampoo, body wash, facial cleanser and other mild cleansing formulations.

When introducing it into an established surfactant base, reassess viscosity, clarity, foam characteristics and physical stability, as adding a refatting component can change the behaviour of the overall cleansing system.

pH
Lamesoft® PO65 has a raw-material specification of pH 3.0–4.0. Final pH should therefore be selected according to the requirements of the complete surfactant system and finished cleansing product.
FORMULATION EXAMPLES

Facial Cleansing Gel
Use within a mild surfactant system where the formulation brief calls for effective cleansing with a more conditioned post-rinse profile.

Body Wash
Useful for modifying the after-feel of a body-cleansing system where the primary surfactant blend may otherwise leave skin feeling overly cleansed or tight.

Shampoo
Can be incorporated into shampoo systems where refatting and post-rinse conditioning are desired alongside the primary cleansing surfactants.

Mild Foaming Cleanser
Use as part of the surfactant system where formulators want to balance foam-based cleansing with lipid replenishment and rinse-off mildness.

Use level considerations

Recommended range 1.0–5.0%
Suggested starting level 2–3% for most cosmetic formulations%

The appropriate concentration should be selected according to the surfactant system, desired degree of refatting and target post-rinse sensory profile. Around 2% can be used as a practical formulation starting point, with the level then adjusted during development within the manufacturer’s recommended range.

Higher addition levels should not automatically be assumed to produce a better formulation. Assess the complete system after each adjustment, particularly where viscosity, clarity, foam and rinse characteristics are important to the finished product.

Formulation summary

Lamesoft® PO65 is a Coco-Glucoside and Glyceryl Oleate refatting system used in rinse-off formulations where formulators want to balance cleansing performance with post-cleansing comfort.

Within a surfactant system, it provides lipid-replenishing functionality while also supporting surfactant-system stability. Its role is therefore complementary to the primary cleansing surfactants rather than replacing them.

General recommended use level are between 1–5%, it can be incorporated across facial cleansers, body washes, shampoos and other mild cleansing systems, with the final level selected according to the surfactant blend and desired finished-product performance.
